Curse Words and the Web

One of my favorite time waster websites is Cursebird. It’s a great site that displays the latest tweets that contain swear words. Now I don’t believe that Twitter should be reserved for professionals (there are plenty who do). It’s a networking tool, and is open to everyone for use however they see fit. I don’t even really see using curse words on twitter an issue. But I do think having an online profile with vulgar content is a bad idea.

Having a profile in a social networking site is branding yourself. There really isn’t a way around it. When you have a profile that says something along the lines of “I’m a sassy b**** so get the f**** over it”, more than just your friends are going to stumble across it. I understand that not everyone cares about this, but it goes to show that people don’t understand the value of an online presence. Not only does it shed bad light on the user, but it creates a bad experience for other users.

This isn’t a post whining about being offended, but I use Twitter every day to build relationships and share things with others. For some reason users like this make the experience seem less than what it is.
