My Bookshelf:3 Books on Design Theories

booksI have always had an interest in the “why” of things. Trying to learn how to do something without knowing the reason was never the route for me. I have a pretty good collection of books about web design, but my favorites focus on the end users and the reasons behind designer choices.

The Principles of Beautiful Web Design
Author: Jason Beaird
Publisher: Sitepoint

A great book that covers layout, color, texture, typograhpy, and imagery. It’s a quick read that’s perfect for someone just starting out in the design world.

Sexy Web Design
Author: Elliot Jay Stocks
Publisher: Sitepoint

This book takes you into the process side of designing a new website. Elliot is quite personable which makes it pleasant to read. He has a great way of breaking down his examples and taking them outside of web design.

Web Form Design
Author: Luke Wroblewski
Publisher: Rosenfeld

Who needs to read a book on web form design? Everyone. I was skeptical to pick this one up, but it certainly paid off. It features solid examples of good and bad form design.
